Source of our Fibre

Spinning, knitting and crocheting has long been a passion of mine. Woolly Yarns is so pleased to offer you some of my creations of Hand spun fibre,Hand spun handcrafted items and Handcrafted items. I have been spinning for more than 30 years after learning the craft handed down by my mother. I will also be stocking some spinning from a friend who has also been spinning for years, this will ensure you have a variety of stock. Source of our Fibre

New Zealand has some of the best natural fibres available in the world.

The products on this site have been manufactured by hand.

Fibres are predominantly 100% New Zealand wool although I do have some products that are mixed with Alpaca, Rayon and Silk and in the case of blankets and some hats are hand knitted with 95% Alpaca fibre and 5% Polyester commercial spun fibre.

We hand spin from raw sheep fleece, Alpaca and other mixture of fibres as well as commercially dyed products.

We also produce hand knitted hand spun or handcrafted items.

Some items handcrafted maybe from commercially prepared fibre. This will be stated on each article.

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Washing and care instructions

All my handspun items are natural fibres. They have been washed in hot water and rinsed in same temperatures, however they have NOT been treated with anything to prevent shrinkage and felting. Please handwash only in warm water with mild detergent and rinse in same temperature water. Do not agitate or continue to move item around as this may result in felting. Different temperatures of water may result in shocking wool and shrinkage. DO NOT wash in washing machine NOT even on wool cycle. Item maybe placed in washing machine spin cycle to remove excess water then laid out on a flat surface re-shaped and dried out of sun. DO NOT tumble dry. All care is given on these instructions but we cannot be held responsible if your item shrinks or felts with your care.

Inconsistent spinning thickness.

This wool or fibre is not commercially spun it is handspun. Therefore there will be some inconsistencies with its thickness and ply. When knitted it will generally balance out and will have that natural spun look you require. While every effort is placed on evenness, sometimes this doesn't occur. Some items on here have been priced due to some of the flaws. You are purchasing this product as it is.

Will the color of products I see shopping online be true?

Due to different monitor settings or camera angles the colours may differ slightly from real life products. All care is given to be able to have as close to colour and style of fibre.

Do you have sample products for fibre?

Unfortunately we don't send samples. You are welcome to visit and see the products. Due to the products being small amounts or full fleeces, they are spun to completion.

Do you offer classes?

If you are located in the Mid Canterbury area, I am more than happy to show you how to spin. I have a limited number of small spinning wheels that can be hired or I am more than happy to set your wheel up and show you how to use it.
